29-FEB-2008: Surlis and Bissett claim
bragging rights for the Hornets |
|
Horsham claimed local bragging rights thanks to a 2-1 win against neighbours
Horsham YMCA on Thursday night. A defensive mistake gifted YM an early lead
but the Hornets hit back to equalise through Pat Surlis before Ben Bissett, a
local lad on work experience from Gillingham, bagged the winner in front of an
excellent crowd of 132. The win sees Ivan Raby's team climb a place to 11th in
the Ryman Youth League. |

24-FEB-2008: YOUTH UPDATE from Annie Raby |
|
The Under 18s still have 18 games to play
before the end of the season. The lads have struggled to find some consistency
this season through frequent postponements due to weather and having played
over 32 lads in the squad so far so let's hope the lads have a good run in to
the end of season. Most weeks they will be playing twice a week. When at Queen
Street please come & support £2.00 adult £1.00.
The Under 16s have also seen their campaign hit by the weather & have only
played 7 league games so far and will also be playing catch up. They have
reached the final of the Challenge Cup and are still in the with a good chance
of winning the league.
Bad weather has meant that the Under 14s have only played under half of their
league fixtures but are still unbeaten and, like their older counterparts,
have booked themselves a cup final date next month and have also reached the
semi-final of the Challenge Cup.
The Under 12s have played some great football in their first season and have
reached the semi-finals of both the County Cup and Challenge Cup and will be
up the top end of the table at the end of the season.
Brighton Charity Cup
Four U18 squad members were called up to play for the 1st team fixture against
Southwick last Wednesday. Tom May and George Magnus played centre back while
Pat Surlis and Matt Whiteford played on the wings. All the lads played well
under the watchful eye of John Maggs, 1st team Manager.
Sussex Reps
Alexander Green and Adam Hutchings from our U16s have been involved in the
last two Sussex Reps games. Well done to them both.
Last game at Queen Street April 19th 2008
All youth players will be invited to join in the celebrations and be involved
in the history books and your managers will be talking to you nearer the time.
All the lads will come into the ground for free but parents will have to pay
normal admission prices for this game.
Howie Sport Relief Mile
Club mascot Howie the Hornet will be running in the Sport Relief Mile for
Charity and we ask that you all please go and support him or, if there is
anyone who wants to run the Mile let me know. Howie will be running in Horsham
Park 16th March 2008 11.30 am. If you would like to pledge some money please
visit the home page of this website.
Parents and Supporters
Thank you all for your efforts so far this season. I know we still have plenty
of games to get played so if you can help your age group with lifts, or maybe
washing a kit now & then, it all helps. Thank you to ALL the supporters who
come through the gates on a midweek fixture for the U18s in the Ryman Youth
League. We really value your support. We have the best attendances in the
League long may that continue.

24-FEB-2008: Battling Hornets bow out of
County Cup |
|
There will be no County Cup Final for
Horsham's Under 12s after they were knocked out of the semi-final by Hastings
Town Minors at the Holbrook this afternoon. After a goalless first half it was
the visitors who broke the deadlock and then converted a debatable penalty
that left the young Hornets with a mountain to climb. Hastings added a third
goal to kill off the game and Horsham's cup final dreams. |

18-FEB-2008: Hornets draw with Angels |
|
The Under
18s bounced back from their mauling against Leatherhead to collect their first
league points of the year with an entertaining 2-2 draw with Tonbridge Angels.
Tony Nwachukwu and Matt Whiteford gave the Hornets a two goal cushion only for
Matt Vitty to claw a goal back in the second half. Andy Whittingham was
controversially dismissed and, a minute later, Tonbridge equalised when
substitute Charlie Sharman forced a shot home.

Depleted youngsters fall to heavy defeat |
|
The Under 12s
failed to score for the first time this season when their understrength side
took on league leaders Lancing Rangers at the Holbrook this afternoon. Two

the season to keep them in 9th place in the Arun & Chichester League table. |

11-FEB-2008:
Ruff justice for Bognor |
|
Second placed
Bognor Regis Town Colts went down 3-1 at the Holbrook on Sunday as the Under
16s' winning league run continued. Jordan Ruff opened the scoring for the
Hornets when he finished off some great work from Joe Giacomelli
and the lead was doubled through Ali Green in the second
half. Despite Patrick O'Sullivan creating a number of chances for the home
side, they were to score just once more, through O'Sullivan himself, before
Bognor grabbed a late consolation. Horsham are in 4th place in the Arun &
Chichester League, 7 points behind leaders Worthing United with 4 games in
hand.

Young Hornets through to cup semis after exciting victory |
|
Horsham set up a
Challenge Cup semi-final with Regis 2000 after an exciting victory over
Rustington Otters today. Zak Comber took his season's tally to 29 goals, just
5 minutes after kick-off, to set Horsham on their way but it wasn't long
before the Otters equalised. The game was end to end stuff and, as half-time
approached, up popped Zak to give Horsham a well deserved lead. During the
second half, George Hole produced a great free kick which led to an own goal
by a Rustington players but the Otters weren't giving up and pulled a great
goal back. Defender, and man of the match, Jake Williams then found the back
of the net to give the Hornets a place in the semi-finals. Final score 4-2 |

07-FEB-2008:
Surlis invited to train with first team |
|
The Under 18s
were given a boost on Monday night by the appearance of new first team coach
Alan Kenworthy who took in their Ryman Youth League meeting with Croydon
Athletic at the Atspeed Stadium. The young Hornets have had a difficult season
with only neighbours Horsham YMCA keeping them off the foot of the table but
their spirits were given a lift when Kenworthy invited Pat Surlis to join up
with the first team for Thursday's training session. The striker is the latest
youth team player to become involved with the first team after injuries to
last season's squad saw players such as Dean Wright and Jamie Baxter promoted
to the squad with Wright claiming his first senior goal in last year's FA Cup
win against Arundel. |

07-FEB-2008:
Impressive Croydon too strong for Horsham youngsters |
|
Second placed
Croydon Athletic ran riot at Queen Street on Monday night, running in 5 goals
as they romped to victory in the Ryman Youth League to keep up the pressure on
leaders AFC Wimbledon. The Rams, who train 3 times a week, were far too strong
for Ivan Raby's side who fielded several Under 16s in the injury hit squad.
Despite the heavy defeat, Raby remained proud of his side who, he said,
applied themselves well and continued to try and play good football.
