Neither of these two sides had played a match for seven weeks so they were glad to get a game on, as were the supporters who braved the cold January air at Broadbridge Heath Stadium.

Horsham were dealt a blow before the start when goalkeeper Dominic Burchell failed a fitness test and had to pull out with an injured back. With Under 16 'keeper Jamie Witham also unavailable through injury Horsham had a problem but, after deliberation and putting a couple of players through a quick goalkeeping session, manager Ivan Raby opted for left back Dan Vinten to don the gloves for what proved later to be a good move.

The first half saw a pretty even game with chances from both sides not quite coming off and the rustiness of being without a game for so long was evident, despite good passing football from the Hornets which often broke down in the final third. With it looking like the sides would go in all square at the interval, Worthing made the breakthrough in the 38th minute when Dec Jenkins scored to put the Rebels ahead.

After half time Horsham came out and pushed for an equaliser and dominated the game for long periods but there were times when everyone wondered if it was not going to be their night. Eventually, in the 64th minute, they were rewarded when the Rebels 'keeper fumbled the ball and young Under 16 striker Josh Clack made sure of the equaliser when the ball came to him.

Horsham might feel hard done by not to get the winner when a couple more chances came along but also had Vinten to thank for a brilliant save when one on one with the Rebels striker. Worthing also had a late penalty appeal turned down and both sides had to settle for a point each.

Manager Ivan Raby commented "it was a good effort from all the lads considering the long lay off, with a special mention for Dan Vinten who stepped in at the last minute and commanded his goal very well, making a crucial save in the second half. It was also great to get Tom Hoole back with the squad for the first time after last season's injury."
