Horsham Youth raced into the quarter finals of The
Sussex Cobra Dennis Probee Youth Cup with in form striker Patrick
O'Sullivan hitting five goals in the 6-1 victory at The Caburn Ground.
The hosts had worked hard to get the pitch in a
playable condition after all the recent rain but, with the turf likely
to start cutting up early in the game, Manager Ivan Raby elected for a
4-3-3 formation with a more direct style of play than usual.
The Hornets were on top from the opening minutes
and Josh Clack had a couple of early chances which just went wide. The
three strikers were enjoying having so much of the ball but Ringmer
were holding on and almost took the lead with their first attack after
a defensive mistake left the target man through on goal but keeper Dom
Burchell made a great save with his feet.
Eventually the opening goal came with O'Sullivan
making sure from close range. The Hornets kept up the pressure but had
to wait until the 35th minute before O'Sullivan struck again. With a
two goal cushion leaving Horsham comfortable it was disappointing as
they seemed to switch off after the goal and Ringmer reduced the
deficit just two minutes later to once again give them hope and the
score remained 1-2 at the break.
Horsham came out for the second half attacking down
the slope and within a minute of the restart O'Sullivan had completed
his hat trick and put the Hornets back in control of the game.
Determined not to let Ringmer back in again the Hornets now upped the
tempo and three minutes later the crowd continued to enjoy the
O'Sullivan show when he made 4-1.
The game was now been played entirely in Ringmer's
half and a succession of corners kept the goalkeeper busy as he
somehow pulled off a string of fantastic saves. There was no stopping
the Horsham centre forward for too long in this mood though and he
made it five out of five with another blistering finish after been set
up by a well directed header from Clack. Horsham now made all three
substitutions as the heavy pitch began to take it's toll and with ten
minutes left the hard working Clack completed the scoring to take the
Hornets into the next Round where they will meet the winners of the
tie between Oakwood and Mile Oak.
