Horsham looked to avenge their opening day defeat, and recent cup exit, at the hands of Sompting & Thistle youth and both teams got stuck in early on, despite the rain. The wet conditions left the pitch heavy and  so playing the ball around proved hard but Horsham soon started to control the game. Yet it took until the 28th minute before Horsham made the breakthrough with a well taken goal from Zak Comber.

In the second half Horsham started well and George Hole scored twice in quick succession after his half-time introduction to  put the Hornets well in command. Horsham were playing some neat football and kept the ball in the Sompting half and got their rewards with a third goal through Zak in the 55th minute. Ten minutes later George scored his second goal of the game and the game was rounded off with Zak's second hat-trick in the last two games.
