Having played each other in this same competition
two years earlier, Horsham knew they were in for a hard game as they
made the journey to Burgess Hill to take on Marle Place with the hosts
looking to avenge their last-gasp defeat at the hands of the Hornets
in 2007.
This game started off well with each team battling
hard but it was Horsham who took the lead in the 22nd minute with a
well taken goal from Alex Parsons from about 20 yards out that flew
into the top corner. But the sides were level again, just 5 minutes
later, when Marle Place grabbed an equaliser from a free-kick and
that's the way it remained until half-time.
Horsham came out in the second half attacking hard
but could not find the back of the net. George Hole went close with a
shot that just went the wrong side of the post but Marle Place went
ahead in the 50th minute. Horsham then lost Hole with just over ten
minutes to go when he took a hard knock on his ankle and, despite
pushing forward in the closing stages, they could not find the
equalizer.
Well played Marle Place. George later went to
hospital and is now in plaster with a suspected broken ankle. Let's
hope that there is no break and he is back playing soon.
