The young Hornets brought the club its first piece
of silverware in 2010, coming from behind to defeat divisional rivals
Highdown Saints 'A' 2-1 in the final of the Arun & Chichester League
Cup at Arundel.
Horsham had already met Highdown twice in the
league this season, going down to 1-2 and 2-3 defeats to the current
leaders, and they were behind after just 10 minutes. A slow, nervy
start from Richard Wootton's side saw them punished when the
Saints' striker turned the defence and drilled a low shot past the
goalkeeper.
This was the wake up call that was needed and
Horsham started to close down and put pressure on the ball more
consistently. Highdown had chosen to try and man mark the dangerous
Finn Bigg for the duration but this left space for James Tilley who
received the ball and levelled the scores on 22 minutes with a 15 yard
drive that flew in to the roof of the net.

Horsham's midfield continued to work tirelessly and their hard work
was rewarded with a second goal when the ball was worked out to Tilley
again who crossed low into the box. Bigg lost his marker and lifted
the ball over the 'keeper to make it 2-1, just before the break.
H/T Horsham 2 Highdown Saints 'A' 1
Horsham put in an excellent second half display and, although no
further goals were scored, both 'keepers were tested. Lewis Reeves was
impeccable at the back, winning the ball time and time again off the
Highdown striker and only a last ditch tackle prevented Hugo Cowen
from extending the lead after collecting the ball in his own half and
carrying the ball into the oppositions 18 yard box.
The Hornets were full of running until the end and
Ali Kerr was only inches away from making it 3-1 with a sweet drive
that just went over the bar
from 20 yards but the whole squad played their part on
the day and deserved the win.
