The third Ryman Youth match of the season saw the
Hornets drop down the table as they lost for the first
time in the league to a well organised Lewes side at the
Dripping Pan. Early doors Horsham were lively and were
not out played. Timi Ojo had a good chance to put
Horsham one up inside the first ten minutes but it
wasn't to be and Lewes settled down to score two goals
in quick succession with their quick winger running the
Horsham defence ragged, putting the Hornets on the back
foot with a third coming before the break.
H/T Lewes 3 Horsham 0
Horsham regrouped in the
interval and worked really hard to contain Lewes but
were not rewarded for their efforts when The Rooks were
given a blatant off side goal. Captain Darian Clay
rallied his side to keep working, which they did, so to
concede another two goals after that was disappointing
as the lads really gave 100% and put in a good
performance, not letting their heads drop while giving
it everything they had.
Looking at the game from
the sidelines, the 2nd half commitment of the Horsham
lads could not be faulted, with many of the squad never
previously having played at a venue like the Dripping
Pan and one wonders if the 'Wow Factor' played a part.
I'm sure the squad will move on from the defeat, take
positives out of the game and try to eradicate the
mistakes made on the night. Looking at the league
results, everyone is pinching points and its going to be
a very competitive league in which Horsham are sure to
play a part in the final standings.
