The second round of the Sussex Sunday Youth League Cup
saw Horsham entertain Ringmer JFC from Division B in
summer like conditions.
Horsham played good possession football throughout the
match and, on 5 minutes, thought they had scored through
Killner-Brown but the Ringmer 'keeper brought off an
excellent save, pushing the ball over from close range.
However the deadlock was broken when some neat work down
the left finished with a fine cross from Garman that
Smith headed back across the goalkeeper into the far
corner.
Then two goals of high quality from the two midfielders
virtually killed the game off. The first, a dipping lob
shot from all of 30 yards by Connor Cushing, caught the
Ringmer keeper off his line and dipped just under the
bar. But better was to come when Alex Parsons hit a
rocket of a shot from 25 yards out which rifled in to
the 'keeper's top right hand corner of the net.
The back five of Horsham with Blaney in between the
posts and Waller, Gander, Jupp and Collier looked
assured and kept the ball well, switching play through
the midfield to ensure the wingers Clarke and Garman
made the use of the flanks.
Just before half time saw some fine interchange play
between Parsons and Waller before Parsons drew the
defender into a foul and Waller despatched the resulting
penalty, sending the keeper the wrong way.
H/T Horsham 4 Ringmer 0
Second half again found Horsham keeping the majority of
the possession and, in effect, closed the game out with
Blaney having very little to do in the Horsham goal. In
the heat Horsham ensured that the subs of Comber, Hole
and Legrange were used wisely and when Horsham switched
from 4-4-2 to 3-4-3 putting Comber, Legrange and Smith
up front it was Smith who got his brace with a snap shot
from a rebound. In all a very good performance from
Horsham with Alex Parsons man of the match with his
control of the midfield with Connor Cushing and an
excellent strike in the first half.
