Horsham began this match in lively fashion with some
great passing football, with Harry Garman and Ben
Collier particularly productive down the left flank and
time again put in dangerous crosses which were not
capitalised on. With Zak Comber and Jake Legrange up
front it looked just a matter of time before the
deadlock was to be broken. Harry Smith was partnering
Cushing in the Horsham midfield, due to Parsons being
unavailable, and it was Smith who opened the scoring on
11 minutes when some smart play in midfield by Connor
Cushing set up Harry Smith whose shot from 20 yards
dipped under the Polegate crossbar.
This goal seemed to spur Horsham on and again most of
the play was in the Polegate half although they defended
resolutely with the Polegate 'keeper on good form. On 25
minutes it was Cushing again with a through ball between
the Polegate centre back and full-back that found Garman
who cut into the box, drew the 'keeper off his line and
then unselfishly cut the ball back for Comber to tap
home Horsham's 2nd.
It then seemed that Horsham would go on to win
comfortably but, to Polegate's credit, they continued to
close down well and work hard. It was this work ethic
that carved out what could only be described as a half
chance on the edge of the Horsham box but Polegate's
number 10, with little back lift, hit the sweetest shot
which had goal written all over it as soon as it was
struck and Blaney in the Horsham goal was left as a
spectator as the ball flew into his top right corner.

The second half was more even than the first, with both
teams working hard and as Polegate pushed for the
equaliser Horsham made some changes with Killner-Brown
coming on for Smith and Rice on for Clarke. Horsham did
have the ball in the net when Killner-Brown headed in a
floated free kick from Rice but he was deemed to have
strayed offside by the Polegate linesman. In all a
satisfying result for Horsham who know they can play a
lot better.
