Two games in a week between these two league A teams
resulted in Horsham going through to the next round of
the knockout cup with ease.
Polegate, as always, showed good determination and
proved hard to break down but, across the 90 minutes,
showed little threat to the Horsham goal with the back
five of Lewis Blaney, Anthony Jupp, Jacob Waller, Greig
Gander and Ben Collier not being seriously tested by the
homee forwards.
Horsham, for all their efforts, had little change out of
the Polegate defence but on 20 minutes Connor Cushing
rifled a right footed shot from all of 25 yards which
beat the diving outstretched hand of the Polegate
'keeper and went in off his right hand post. Horsham
were good value for their lead but failed to press home
their advantage so they went in at half time with just
the one goal advantage.
H/T Polegate Grasshoppers 0 Horsham 1
The second half began with Horsham playing into the wind
and this ensured they played their football on the
ground, which best suits their style of play, and it was
Jake Legrange who finished off a smart move between
George Hole and Tom Killner-Brown who played the ball to
the far post for Legrange to finish off smartly.
Horsham looked more assured in the centre of the park
with Alex Parsons returning to the side and, when the
ball got cleared to Man of the match Ben Collier on 61
minutes, he cut inside one player and hit a right footed
shot from the edge of the box which hit the underside of
the Polegate crossbar and into the net. Five minutes
later and, for the second week running, Horsham had a
late effort ruled out for offside when Cushing put
Killner-Brown through and was ruled offside as his pass
was converted by Legrange.
