The second round of the County cup saw Horsham drawn
away to Eastbourne United. Horsham started brightly,
keeping the majority of possession with Eastbourne
working hard to close down play. Playing directly into
the sun, Horsham made many chances but none were taken
while their defence remained resolute and focused with
goalkeeper Lewis Blaney remaining a spectator for the
first half.
Unfortunately Horsham lost Jake Legrange to injury,
after jarring his knee following a solid tackle, and was
replaced by Stanley Rice. But, for all their possession
and chances, it looked like Horsham would go in at half
time level but, on 39 minutes, a move involving Alex
Parsons and Jacob Waller saw the ball played out to the
right where Rice cut inside his full-back and floated
his cross over the centre back where Zak Comber was on
hand to hook the ball over the 'keeper into the net for
a much deserved 1-0 interval lead.

Shortly after half time, Horsham changed their set up
with Harry Garman and Harry Smith on as subs for Waller
and Ben Collier. Smith was busy in his new role just
behind Comber and Tom Killner-Brown and it was his run
from just inside the Eastbourne half which saw him
commit the 'keeper before sliding the ball calmly inside
the near post for 2-0 on 51 minutes.
Horsham continued to play neat possession football, with
Captain Connor Cushing running the midfield with a man
of the match display. But Horsham sustained another set
back when George Hole had to be replaced after pulling
up after trying a shot from the edge of the box.
On 63 minutes the game was over as a contest when Comber
got his brace to cap a fine team display which continues
Horsham's 100% start in all competitions this season.
