A hat-trick from Oliver East helped secure all 3 points for
Horsham's U15s as they won 5-0 away at Worthing Minors.
The game started quietly, with
both sides taking a while to get going in a congested midfield.
In fact, both sides were restricted to long range efforts, Will
Kerr first striking wide from 30 yards before a Minors
midfielder hit a 25 yard shot straight at Hornets' 'keeper Tom
Auston.
The young Hornets then had a goal
disallowed for a tight offside decision before Callum Nash
fizzed a dangerous corner across the 6 yard box and Oliver East
slammed home the rebound from 6 yards out to hand them the lead.
There then followed a passage of play where the referee seemed
to want play to continue without giving a decision to either
side which resulted in some tough tackling from both teams. It
included a huge penalty shout for the young Hornets when Kerr
rode two tackles before being upended in the box but the referee
decided to give a goal-kick.
However, Horsham responded to that
decision when a neat one-two between Andrew Roberts and Kerr saw
the latter's measured cross side-footed in by the on-rushing
East for both his and his side's second. The final 10 minutes of
the half saw further chances come and go, as Roberts saw a shot
well saved by the home stopper, Kerr hitting the crossbar from
the edge of the area, and Harry Lee shot wide when well placed.

Horsham started the second half in
a positive fashion, with Roberts shooting just wide inside the
first minute. The game was then all but over with 25 minutes to
go as Kerr beat 3 Worthing players before cutting the ball back
for East to complete his hat-trick to take the score to 3-0.
Further chances were then created,
Ross Williams seeing his shot tipped over by the home 'keeper,
Kerr firing in another shot from distance that went just wide
and the Minors stopper then producing another fine save to deny
Lee when through on goal.
Kerr again turned provider with
quarter of an hour left on the clock, another run and cross from
the Horsham right finding the unmarked Williams to comfortably
side-foot home. The hosts did rally but were reduced to shooting
from distance, hardly troubling Auston in the Horsham goal. Kerr
then got his reward for an industrious display in midfield when
he exchanged passes with Williams before rifling home a
right-footed shot into the top corner from 20 yards to round off
a comprehensive victory. |
