PREVIEW:
Horsham have the chance to atone for Thursday's dismal performance at
Waltham Abbey when they welcome awayday specialists Tooting & Mitcham
to Gorings Mead this Saturday.
A place among the play-off places remains on offer, despite passing up
the opportunity to move in to 4th place by failing to overcome the division's
basement side where goals from Lee Sontag and Rici Crace helped lift
the Abbotts off the foot of the table, with Andy Keepence's own goal
Horsham's sole consolation on a bitterly disappointing night.
The visit of Tooting will be treated
with caution, with the Terrors defending an unbeaten record at
Horsham that extends back to August 2000 when Matt Smart, Gavin Geddes
and Ryan Andrews were the Hornets' goalscorers in a 3-2 win. This
campaign has found the South Londoners equally as impressive on their
travels with only 3 away defeats in the league although the most
recent, on Tuesday evening, saw them comprehensively outgunned 4-1 at
troubled Carshalton Athletic.
One of the few players to emerge from
that defeat with any semblance of praise was our former player Tom
Graves, who will be assured of a warm welcome from the Hornets
supporters after notching more than 200 appearances in our colours
before joining Lewes in 2008. Tom will certainly be no stranger to the
Gorings Mead set-up, having spent much of the early part of this
season with our landlords YMCA.
Tooting's play-off hopes have stalled
after a winless run of 5 games that has returned a meagre 2 points but
they remain in touching distance, just 3 points behind John Maggs' 6th
placed side. Colin Hartburn is likely to miss the game through
suspension, having been dismissed on successive weekends, but Nic
Donnell could feature in the starting XI after his recent arrival from
Bromley. For the Hornets, Alex Haddow is expected to miss his 3rd game
in a row, due to work commitments. |
