Ken
Westoby will play no further part in the Hornets' fight against
relegation after being diagnosed with a torn cruciate ligament
in his knee. The goalkeeper has been playing understudy to Michael
Hunter in recent weeks but was handed a rare outing in last
Tuesday's cup tie at Southwick, only to fall awkwardly just
half an hour's play. Boss Hugo Langton expressed his disappointment
for the former Horsham Youth team 'keeper in an interview with
the West Sussex County Times.
"Unfortunately Ken will need a long lay-off. He’s done
his cruciate ligament in his knee which was revealed in the
scan result yesterday (Tuesday) so we’re looking at him being
out until around the end of the year. He certainly won’t be
back for the rest of the season but he’s a fit young man so
that will work in his favour.
I’ve said to him this football club will look after him and
when he comes back he’ll still very much be a Horsham player.
I’m gutted for him because I understand he’s done it before
and it’s unfortunate. The lad’s not played a game for a while
and then 30 minutes in he has to be hospitalised. It sums up
our season.”
Langton says he does not expect to draft in another goalkeeper
as back up for Hunter because defender Calum McGeehan can also
play in goal.
