Defences on top in opening day stalemate

Horsham and Aveley battled out a goalless draw in today's opening Ryman League Premier Division match of the new season. Neither goalkeeper was seriously stretched throughout the contest although Aveley were grateful to their captain, Danny Slater, for clearing Ben Andrews' first half header off the goal-line. Andrews might have claimed all three points for his side at the death when he twice went close with headers but there could be few complaints at the result. Report...
