Horsham should field an unchanged side for Tuesday's visit to
struggling Carshalton Athletic, despite their weekend defeat by
Tonbridge. John Maggs' side produced one of their poorest displays of
the season in going down 3-0 to Tommy Warrilow's promotion chasers but
the manager admitted that there wasn't much he could do to shake his
side up. "Pretty much every fit player I've got will be involved," he said.
"Sam Tucknott's not responded too well to treatment so he looks like
he's going to be out for the season and Tony Nwachukwu's come back
from Nigeria with a bug so it's touch and go as to whether he'll be
okay for Tuesday so it'll probably be as we were on Saturday."
Maggs was disappointed with his players' capitulation against a fairly
unimpressive Angels team who took the points thanks to 3 unforced
errors from the Hornets. "Maybe they think they've got nothing to play
for, I don't know, but what I will say is that I expect every team I
put out to go out and give it 100% and there's not many of my players
who can claim to have done that on Saturday. We've got 4 games left
and every one of those matches involve teams either pushing for
promotion or looking to avoid the drop so we need to make sure we go
in with exactly the right attitude or we're going to get turned over.
I want to end this season on a positive note, achieve our highest ever
finish if we can, and I would expect the players to be playing for
that and their pride if nothing else."
Carshalton are among those battling against relegation and club
captain David Ray's 89th minute equaliser against Harrow Borough on
Saturday might yet prove crucial if, as is rumoured, the Premier
Division loses just 3 sides to Division One at the end of the season.
The Robins have actually lost just once in the last 6 games and will
probably require 2 more wins to guarantee their top flight status for
another year.
History, though, is not on their side with Horsham not having lost on
their visits to Colston Avenue since December 2002. Last season's
corresponding match saw the Hornets record their biggest away win of
the season, 5-1, but the points were shared earlier in this campaign
when Horsham scored twice in the second half to gain a point from a
2-2 draw
