Sam Tucknott is in line for a surprise return to action for Saturday's visit
of Tonbridge Angels in a Horsham squad that John Maggs
believes has the ability to create a piece of history at the end of a
largely unspectacular campaign. The long serving manager has
challenged his side to produce a strong conclusion to the season and
beat the club's previously highest placed finish of 8th, a suggestion
that would have been ridiculed just a few weeks ago. A seven match winless run during March
had the Hornets looking anxiously over their shoulder at the
relegation places but they have shown great character to pick up wins
over AFC Hornchurch and Ashford Town, as well as fighting back from
2-0 down to gain a point at Harrow Borough, and should go in to the
weekend fixture with Tommy Warrilow's play-off chasing side in good
heart.
Tucknott hasn't played since limping off
against Dartford last month but returned to training this week and is
expected to be fit to face Carshalton on Tuesday night although Maggs
hopes to name the former Bognor man among Saturday's substitutes. Flying winger Tony Nwachukwu is back in the squad after
returning from a trip to his native Nigeria over the Easter period and
goalkeeper Mark Zawadski should have recovered from the virus that
kept him out of Monday's match at Ashford.
Tonbridge currently sit just one place,
and four points, behind Hastings United who occupy the final play-off
spot but have two games in hand on their East Sussex rivals after putting
together an impressive unbeaten run of ten games. Monday's goalless
draw with Margate maintained an excellent defensive record that has
seen the Angels concede just four goals in those ten matches but
their run-in could be hampered by injuries and suspensions with Lee Minshull reportedly starting a
three match ban this weekend while Fraser
Logan faces an operation that rules him out of the rest of the season.
One time Lewes striker Paul Booth
continues to bang in the goals, with his brace
in Thursday's losing Kent Senior Cup quarter-final tie with Sittingbourne
taking his tally to 22 for the season, one behind Horsham's Pat
Harding. It was Booth who opened the scoring when the two sides met at
the Longmead Stadium way back in August and, although Horsham hit back
through goals from Claude Seanla and Lee Carney, the points ended up
shared thanks to Carl Rook's 90th minute leveller against his former
team.
