Horsham's youngsters repaid their
manager's faith with starring roles in this evening's emphatic victory
over Ashford Town. Earning their inclusion after Saturday's impressive
displays, Adam Hutchings and Tony Nwachukwu each scored within the
opening 11 minutes to give John Maggs' side the perfect platform on
which to produce their second biggest win of the season and bring to
an end the Ash Trees' 12 match unbeaten run. Nwachukwu got things
started after just 8 minutes when he bundled the ball home at the far
post and the teenagers combined to great effect, shortly after, when
Nwachukwu set up Hutchings for his first senior goal.
Nwachukwu was
also involved in the move that saw Alex Haddow score to give the hosts
a 3-0 lead at the break, a scoreline secured when 18 year old Josh
Pelling saved Brian Haule's 41st minute penalty. Jamie England's
disputed goal reduced the arrears, after it looked as if Pelling had
prevented the midfielder's close range shot from crossing the line,
but Pat Harding settled any second half nerves when he converted a
cross from Haddow, midway through the half. Both sides were mystified
by several decisions from referee Kelly who incurred the wrath of the
home fans with his controversial dismissal of Haddow, 6 minutes from
time.
