Hi all,
Just a quick update on some events I'll be taking part in in the
coming months. It would be great to see some of you there to cheer me
on !
The first one is on Sunday
9th September, just down the road at
Fontwell racecourse near Arundel.
The mascot race is due to be an egg & spoon race but it could turn out
to be just a straight race as there might be more entrants than eggs &
spoons! AFC Wimbledon's Hayden the Womble is due to be there along
with Bognor's new mascot, Rocky the Bear. The mascot race itself is
due to start at 1.15pm after a presentation in the parade ring. This
race will be followed by a full racecard of horse racing.
from the Fontwell website:
Former England cricketer Phil Tufnell and popular characters Fifi
and Bumble, from the Nick Jr show Fifi and the Flowertots, will be
special guests at this Family Race Day. This is one of the most
popular meetings of the season and as well as seven great races there
are fun fair rides, bouncy castles, face painters and free colouring
books for the children. We have also arranged a mascot race to take
place on the course prior to the first horse race. Phil Tufnell will
be signing autographs and children will be able to have their
photographs taken with Fifi and Bumble. Admission starts from just £15
and children aged 15 and under are admitted free of charge.

The second upcoming event is a bit further away at Huntingdon
Racecourse, near Cambridge, but is THE BIG ONE of the mascot year -
the Mascot Grand National. There
is usually a large gathering of mascots from all over the country for
this one with over 60 participating last year.
It all takes place on Sunday 7th October,
the gates opening at 12.10pm, with the race taking place at about
1.10pm. In addition to the race itself there will be a parade of the
mascots and the annual mascot prize giving ceremony plus 6 exciting
horse races. As is tradition, the mascots will have to complete the
gruelling 1 furlong (220 yards) course including hurdles if they are
to successfully complete the race.

website
Now this event also raises money for charity with this years nominated
charity being CHILDREN with LEUKAEMIA.
Howie needs to raise at least £25 to enter and if anyone would be able
to sponsor him a few pounds towards the cost then please let me know |
