Horsham's
long winless streak against Harrow continued after this
routine victory for the hosts whose unbeaten home record
against the men from Sussex now extends to 11 matches
over almost 44 years!
Hugo
Langton named an unchanged side to that which had continued
its impressive New Year form by holding promotion-chasing
Wealdstone to a draw in midweek, with the addition of
teenage striker Dean O'Keefe and Assistant-Coach Craig
Wilkins on the bench. Harrow, themselves struggling
towards the wrong end of the table after reaching last
season's play-off semi-finals, fielded Jon-Jo Bates
instead of Rob Wolleaston with Michael Barima coming
in at full-back in place of Wilson Gondwe who dropped
to the bench.
Between
two teams fighting for survival the game started off
even with both teams having early chances. It started
with the Hornets when George Landais put a through ball
down the line but it was just too far for Murphy to
get. As per usual Horsham were being threatened at the
back when a cross was played in by Aryantaj Tajbakhsh
but Ian Varley was on the scene to clear for a corner,
which resulted in Harrow volleying wide of the target.
The
Reds were in their opponents' box again when Bates,
scorer of 2 goals i Harrow's 3-1 victory at Goring's
Mead earlier in the season, received the ball from Tristan
Toney only for his touch to let him down, allowing Michael
Hunter to easily gather the ball. Just seconds later
Horsham were up the other end with a fre- kick which
Williams Peauroux sent into the area and Ray Freeman
headed the ball down but Landais was unable to find
the net from a difficult angle.
Further
into the half Horsham had another free-kick, this time
taken by Tommy Murphy but his shot lacked power and
went easily wide of the Harrow goal. Horsham just really
weren’t there!
True
to the now all-too-familiar script it was Harlow who
opened the scoring on the 28th minute through Danny
Buckle who poked in the first goal after a goalmouth
scramble resulting from Tajbakshs' cross. Just under
10 minutes later the Hornets' goal-line was threatened
again but this time Yinka Salami got his body in the
way to ensure that the deficit remained at just the
one goal. Yet, in the closing stages, the visitors might
have gone in to the break on level terms when Freeman
met Murphy's cross but his rushed header lacked sufficient
power, allowing home 'keeper Will Viner to make an easy
catch.

Just
after the break, Horsham had another half chance when
the ball bounced just outside the 18 yard box but Kery
Kedze’s shot on the half volley failed to hit the target.
However, it took just 5 minutes of the second half for
Harrow to double their lead and finish off the game.
This time a loose ball came in from the left which Hunter
looked set to get, only for him to seemingly back out
of a challenge with the pacy Toney resulting in the
away goal being breached for a second time.
But
for Hunter, Toney could have netted himself a hat-trick
within 10 minutes of scoring his first. His first chance
came when he picked the ball up on the edge of the box
and shot straight at the Hornets' stopper then, soon
after, Tajbakhsh crossed in to the box and Toney headed
but again Hunter held firm.
After
this a call for change was granted when Langton took
off Landais, who had struggled to impress, and replaced
him with Adam Hutchings with Harrow taking the opportunity
to send on Adam Fry for first half goalscorer Buckle. Almost
immediately, Harrow had strong claims for a penalty
turned down after Hunter was alleged to have taken down
Bates but referee Aylott signalled for a goal-kick.
The
final substitution came 10 minutes from time when Peauroux
was replaced by Ahmer Ahmed, who was making his second
appearance in the amber and green up top, but the impetus
remained with Harrow and they had another shot at goal,
this time substitute Fry sending a curling shot from
the edge of the box just wide of the far top corner.
Hunter prevented the hosts from grabbing a late third
when he kept out an effort from Bates from 12 yards.
