Horsham earned a third successive league win with this 2-0 triumph at Boreham Wood thanks to second half goals from Tony Acheampong, his first for the Hornets, and Jean-Michel Sigere. The victory, their third in a row at Broughinge Road, lifted John Maggs' side to 11th in the Ryman Premier Division table and marked a winning start for goalkeeper Rob Tolfrey who only agreed terms with the club on the morning of the match. The former Whyteleafe stopper produced an excellent first half save to deny Chris Watters to ensure that the lacklustre Hornets remained on level terms at the break but an improved performance after the interval meant it was the visitors who took the three points.

Tolfrey was the only change to the side that comfortably defeated Margate last weekend with Alex Haddow having to make do with a place on the subs' bench after his return from suspension. Boreham Wood, 8th in the table at the start of play, lined up with Leon Archer leading the attack in his fourth spell with the Hertfordshire club while Summer signings Mario Noto (Chelmsford) and Wes Daly (AFC Wimbledon) provided attacking flair to the midfield.

The hosts began in lively fashion, eager to make amends for their midweek defeat by Margate, and Archer twice tried his luck without troubling Horsham's new 'keeper and Lee Carey's 13th minute free-kick was comfortably fielded by Anthony Anstead in what was generally a low-key start to proceedings. Wood, though, should have taken the lead after 19 minutes when Lee Harvey wasted a golden opportunity after being set up by Noto and Archer kept up the pressure on the Horsham goal when he sent a chip over the crossbar from the edge of the area.

The fluent passing game that had seen the Hornets dispose of Margate 7 days earlier seemed to have deserted them during a disappointing opening 45 minutes as they rarely threatened the home goal and it was left to Tolfrey to keep his new team-mates in the game when he expertly tipped Watters' free-kick over the 'bar to ensure that the sides turned round goalless at the break.

Maggs' half-time team talk clearly had the desired effect as the Hornets took just 10 minutes to get their noses in front when Acheampong (right) stooped to head home Gary Charman's flick on and the goal galvanised the visitors who grew in confidence and finally began to find their rhythmn. Greg Morgan went in to the book for a strong challenge on Charman, as did Ollie Adedeji for a similar offence against the same player as the home side's frustrations grew.

Three corners came and went in quick succession for Wood but it was Charman, feeling no ill-effects from the treatment meted out on him just minutes before, who had the best chance to increase the visitors' lead when he headed Jacob Mingle's cross wide.

Sigere was denied by an excellent block by Harvey with a quarter of an hour remaining but the full-back was culpable just a few minutes later when he felled the Frenchman inside the Boreham Wood penalty area (above, left) and Sigere dusted himself off to plant the ball beyond Anstead's despairing dive to double Horsham's lead.

The hosts tried to claw themselves back in the game in the closing moments but Morgan, Noto and substitute Lee Allinson all lacked the accuracy that might have set up a tense finale and Sigere almost rubbed salt in to the wounds when he poked a late shot wide of the upright.
