Horsham
travelled for a St Valentines clash with Leatherhead with the squad in
disarray with 10 players unavailable. Under 16s were brought in to the
squad as well as debutant Karl Threadgold and a couple of players
carrying injuries and sickness.
The Hornets competed well for the first half hour and even had a
couple of chances but ,for most of the time, it was backs to the wall
defending as the Tanners gained a series of corners. Eventually the
deadlock was broken and the Hornets collapsed into a disjointed group
who could not be called a team as they let the home club hit them a
further four times before the break. Harsh words were spoken in the
dressing room and the formation was changed. Darren James, who had put
in a great effort in the first half, had to be replaced as he was
suffering with the flu and really shouldn't have been at there at all.
The second half saw the Hornets put in a better display but were hit
by four fantastic goals from the Tanners. A consolation was scored by
George Magnus from the penalty spot to leave the final score 9-1 on a
Valentines night Massacre to forget.
A
disappointed Manager Ivan Raby said " You can not compete in this
league with so many players missing. Ddespite the scoreline, and what
went on in the first half, I was proud of the players tonight. Some of
their team-mates who were not here need to have a look at themselves
to decide how committed they are to the club".
