Horsham’s U18 travelled to Billingshurst’s Jubilee fields for
their first pre-season friendly and ran out deserved 2-0 winners. The
young Hornets started brightly, looking solid in defence with a whole
new back line of Daniel Bryant, Matthew Dingle, Harry Pleece and
Andrew Whittingham all putting in fine displays with Tom Baxter
looking confident in the Horsham goal. The midfield worked tirelessly
with great performances from Daniel Hutchings, Michael Dale, Matthew
Whiteford and Tony Nwachukwu. The front line of Joe Baker and Elliott
Hawkes created lots of chance only to see shots go just wide or saved
by the Billingshurst ‘keeper to leave the match goalless at the
interval. After the break, Adam Hutchings was introduced at centre
back for Matthew Dingle, Fred Bowles came on for Daniel Bryant at
right back and Jordon Williams replaced Joe Baker. As the second half
got under way Horsham played some good passing football which saw
debutant
Nwachukwu
hit a cracking shot to score his first goal in Horsham colours. The
goal seemed to shake Billingshurst up and some choice tackles came
flying in but the Hornets kept to their game plan and carved out more
chances in the final third. The victory was secured from a cross that
saw the ball bobbling around in the area and Jordon
Williams
was on hand to score a well deserved goal. Horsham kept the pressure
on to the end and ran out 2-0 winners
