Horsham Youth Under 16s eased into the final of the Challenge cup with a 5 – 2 win over Regis 2000 in Bognor on Sunday.

It took only thirteen minutes before Horsham took the lead after some fine work on the left wing from Jordan Ruff resulted in the ball falling at the feet of Alexander Green who slotted his first, of what was to be three on the day, home from the middle of a crowded penalty area.

Regis were out to try and impress with a final place at stake but it was Green who impressed on the day, particularly when he picked up the ball barely in the opposition's half, looked up and shot from all of thirty yards high into the far top corner of the goal for what is potentially going to be the Hornets’ goal of the season. Deep into stoppage time at the end of the first half, the Bognor team pulled a goal back when confusion within the Hornets defence allowed the Regis striker to poach a goal and so the teams went into the half time break with only one goal separating them.

The second half started in the same manner, with the Hornets taking control, and it wasn’t long before Green completed his hat-trick with a terrific solo effort, taking on three Regis defenders before slotting the ball home past a despairing 'keeper. Midway through the second half George Magnus, who was returning from 1st team duty earlier in the week, was adjudged to have held back a Regis forward which resulted in the award of a penalty. Despite the Hornets 'keeper getting close, the penalty was struck with too much power for him to get a hand to.

Magnus made amends, however, just five minutes later when he drilled the ball home from the edge of the Regis penalty area following a delightful corner from the ever busy, and in form, Green. Makeshift midfielder Anthony Dumbrill completed the scoring with five minutes on the clock after some fine work once again from Ruff on the left which found Dumbrill in space and allowed him to hit the ball on the run, high into the Regis goal, and give the Hornets a score-line which emphasised their dominance throughout the game.
