The under 14’s were in action today, in horrible conditions, when they hosted Crawley Town Devils in the 3rd Round of the County Cup. This was always going to be a tough match as Crawley have proven to be tough opposition in the past.

Horsham had an early chance from a free kick in the 7th minute which carried just wide and, from the resulting goal kick, Crawley then had their first chance when the ball carried on the wind but the shot was caught comfortably by George Borer in the Horsham goal. Three minutes later, Crawley opened the scoring when a corner wasn’t cleared and, despite Borer making two saves, the ball was eventually blasted into the back of the net. David O’Callaghan almost pulled the young Hornets level when a solo run from midfield resulted in the Crawley 'keeper making the first of many saves.

The 25th minute saw Horsham pull level when a cross from O’Callaghan on the right was headed home by George Hall. Daryl Jeeves was replaced by Goldsmith and, in the last minutes of the half, the Crawley 'keeper kept out a shot from Clarke.

The second half saw Ryan Wotton on for Marcus Collier and Horsham starting to dominate. With five minutes of the half gone, Sam Bulley came on for an injured Goldsmith but despite the majority of the play Horsham were unable to score. In the next five minutes, O’Callaghan had two fine shots saved and a cross from the right went through the Crawley six yard box untouched. Hall was the next to be denied by the Devils' keeper when he latched on to a long goal kick and the keeper parried.

With six minutes to go, O’Callaghan went off injured and Goldsmith returned and, shortly after, Hall was again through one on one with the 'keeper who again made a superb save. With time running out, Horsham were all over Crawley but unable to score the winner and extra time loomed.

There was a worrying incident when, just into the start of the first period of extra time, a Crawley player went down in the middle of the pitch suffering from hypothermia and was carried off the pitch unconscious, leaving the referee little option but to abandon the match for the players' safety
