Due to be the third
of 3 vital consecutive encounters with Rustington Otters, today’s match
was changed to a league clash with Adur Athletic. And, with Horsham and
Adur battling for the top spot over the last 2 seasons, today’s match
could be crucial.
Matt Bulley’s Horsham side almost made a dream start when a through
ball from George Hall found Louis Masih through on goal only for the pitch
to come to Adur’s help, producing a large bobble which denied Masih a
shooting chance.
The next 25 minutes saw Horsham having slightly more of the play and
Masih had a further 2 good chances of opening the scoring, firstly a 1
– 2 with O’Callaghan resulted in a shot just over and then a pass from
Clack saw Masih’s shot hit the crossbar.
With 32 minutes, gone a rare corner for Adur brought a fine claim by
Kieran Towse and any chance of an Adur goal snuffed out.
With the half closing fast Horsham finally made the breakthrough when
a Matt Mayes corner was headed home by Hall.
The second half started in spectacular fashion for the young Hornets
when a ball over the top by O’Callaghan was chipped over the 'keeper by
Hall for his second.
Horsham had a scare, 10 minutes into the half, when the ball was
rattling around their penalty area before finally being cleared by
Zack Gray.
The remainder of the half saw Horsham the better side with the defence
having stood firm all game. With just 2 minutes to go the game was
settled when a corner by Sam Bulley was driven home by O’Callaghan.
This win puts them 4 points clear with 2 games in hand over Fishergate
Flyers. Adur are a further 2 points behind having played 1 game less
than Horsham.
The next match is a trip to Regis 2000
in the league. |
